Family Fishing Charter

Family vacations in Florida should not be ruined by a charter that puts a 7-year-old on a rocking boat 20 miles offshore for an hour to catch nothing. We’ve all heard those stories. A family fishing trip with Nautical Native is the opposite of that, and it’s specifically designed around what kids and mixed-experience groups actually need.
Calm water. Short runs. Variety in the bite so the rods stay bent. A captain who is genuinely good with kids. A boat with the room to spread out, plenty of shade, and stable enough to walk around comfortably. And the option to mix in a snorkel stop, dolphin watching, or a sandbar swim to break up the day.
Captain Charlie Tita has been hosting families on these waters for over three decades. He keeps the day fun, keeps it safe, and keeps the kids hooked, sometimes literally for life. The calm waters off Bradenton Beach are ideal for first-time anglers and young kids.
What a family fishing day looks like
Every family is different and the day flexes around your group, but here's the typical rhythm:
Departure (8 AM-ish, or earlier in summer to beat the heat): You meet at 801 Riverside Dr E. Park free, walk down to the boat. Quick safety briefing, life jackets sized for kids, gear introduction.
Run to the first spot (15-30 minutes): The Parker 25’ Deep-V hull means a soft, dry ride. Even on a windy day the kids stay comfortable. We’re typically heading for protected water in the Manatee River, around Anna Maria Island, or in lower Tampa Bay.
Fishing (1-2 hours per spot): Live bait under corks for the kids, simple to cast and great for steady action. We target whatever’s biting hardest: trout, ladyfish, mangrove snapper, sheepshead, jacks, and any of the bigger species (snook, redfish) that come in. The goal is bent rods and smiles.
Optional stops:
-
Snorkel break at Egmont Key: clear water, easy entry, great for kids and adults. Bring goggles or we have basic gear.
-
Dolphin watching: they show up regularly. Slowing the boat for a pod is part of most days.
-
Sandbar stop: wade in shallow water, skip rocks, take photos, let the little ones burn off energy.
Return to dock: Catch is cleaned and bagged, photos sent to your phone, kids tired in the best way possible.
Why this charter works for families
The boat is right. The Parker 25’ has 8 seats, plenty of shade under the T-top, a forward casting deck the kids love, and the stability of a Deep-V hull. No 18-foot bay boat bouncing in the chop.
The captain is right. Charlie has spent his life on these waters and is a dad-energy captain. Patient with new anglers, good with kids, knows when to keep them fishing and when to take a snorkel break.
The water is right. We have access to the most protected, fish-rich water in this part of Florida. We don’t need to run far to find action, which means less boat time, more fishing time.
The day is yours. This is a private charter. You set the pace. Want a 4-hour half-day with snorkeling? Done. Want 6 hours of mixed fishing? Done. Want to come back early because the youngest is fading? Easy.

Trip options for families
Trip type Best for
4 hour Inshore Family Trip First-time families, younger kids, half-day vacation slot
4 hour Fish + Snorkel Combo Mixed-interest groups, vacationers wanting variety
6 hour Family Adventure Groups who want full day's fishing + a snorkel/dolphin stop
8 hour Custom Family Day Big groups, special occasions, multi-stop trips
The Fish + Snorkel combo is one of our most popular trips. We fish inshore or nearshore for a couple hours, then wind down at Egmont Key for snorkeling and beach time. It’s the kind of day kids talk about for years. We frequently run family trips out toward Palmetto for protected, easy fishing.

A word on age limits
Kids age 4 and up are welcome. Younger kids can come in some cases (parental judgment call), but Captain Charlie’s honest take is that 4 to 5 is the youngest age where most kids actually engage with the fishing for any length of time. Below that, the trip becomes more "boat ride with parents fishing" which is fine but worth knowing.
Family fishing charter FAQs
Will my kids actually catch fish? Yes. We design family trips around steady action. Mixed-bag inshore fishing with multiple species is the right format because it keeps something biting almost continuously.
My kid has never fished before. Is that a problem? Not at all. Most of our family trip kids are total beginners. Captain Charlie shows them how to hold the rod, when to set the hook, and how to fight a fish. By the third fish they’re doing it themselves.
Do you have small life jackets? Yes, including infant and child sizes. We size them up at the dock before we leave.
Can we add snorkeling to a fishing trip? Absolutely. We can stop at Egmont Key or a calm sandbar. No extra charge. Just let us know you want to include it when you book.
What if my child gets seasick or the kids just want to come back early? We come back. It's a private charter, your day, no penalty. We’d rather everyone have a great time than tough out a hard hour.
What about non-fishing family members? Welcome aboard. Many family trips have a parent or grandparent who is along for the ride, taking photos, helping the kids, or just enjoying the day. The boat has plenty of room.
Can we bring food and drinks? Yes. Pack a cooler bag, we’ll put it on ice. Alcohol allowed for adults in moderation (within Florida regulations).
What’s the best season for a family trip? March through November is prime. December through February still fishes well but mornings can be cold. Summer is hot but the bite is great and the snorkel option is more attractive.
How far in advance should we book? Spring break, summer, and holiday weeks hook up months ahead. As soon as your travel dates are set, get on the calendar. Off-season weeks are usually available with a couple weeks' notice.
Is this trip the same as the inshore charter? Similar fishing, different framing. The inshore charter is built for anglers focused on fishing. The family charter builds in flexibility for snorkeling, dolphin watching, and a slower pace if needed. If you have all adult experienced anglers, book inshore. If you have kids or mixed experience, book the family trip.
Ready to plan your family fishing day?
Call Captain Charlie at (727) 331-1532 or book online. Tell us your group ages, and any priorities (catch a fish, see a dolphin, snorkel, etc.) and we’ll build the day around you.
More options to consider: inshore charter for serious anglers, tarpon trip in summer for older kids and adults who want the bucket list, or snook fishing for a focused inshore species trip.
